JIMMY RIVERA

Jimmy Rivera is a drummer who has influenced jazz musicians from all over the world, described by the International Jazz Society as “the Caribbean Drummer who expands the horizons of international masters” -Professor Ana Velez, author of the book “En Torno al Jazz.” He is widely considered to be the “guru” of jazz drummers in Puerto Rico and has performed in countless concerts and jazz festivals with jazz legends from all over the globe.


Over a career that spans more than 6 decades, Jimmy has performed with jazz legends from all over the world including Cal Tjader, Willy Bobo, Stan Getz, Mongo Santamaria, Billy Harper, Walter Bishop Jr., Bobby Watson, John Hicks, Reggie Workman, Steve Turre,  David Sanchez, Eddie Gomez, Hilton Ruiz, Jerry and Andy Gonzalez to name a few. He was a founding member of the legendary Puerto Rican Latin Jazz group Batacumbele and played with them for 25 years. In Puerto Rico he has performed with virtually every well known performer on the island including Roberto Rohena, Giovanni Hidalgo, Hector Veneros, Juancito Torres, Charlie Rodriguez, Pedrito Guzman, Candido Reyes, Pablo Rosario, Oscar Galende and Angel “Cachete” Maldonado.


His participation is this tribute dedicated to Latin Jazz legends who have passed on was an honor not only to those legendary performers but also to the group of Latin Jazz all stars on this recording.
